Illinois’ Power-Armed, Academic-Minded Righty With Pro-Level Bloodlines
O’Donnell is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound right-handed pitcher for Illinois who was listed as a redshirt sophomore in 2026, and the Illini note he missed the 2026 season due to injury.[1] His best recent on-field snapshot came in 2025, when he posted a 2.83 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 17.1 innings, while outside evaluators tagged him as a top-25 Illinois right-handed pitching prospect and a Perfect Game Top 500 national arm.[1][15] The fit is clear: if a team wants a sturdy, strike-throwing project with upside, plus a player who values academics and brings a “perfect fit athletically and academically” mindset, he checks a lot of boxes.[1]
