hard-hitting, ball-hawking safety who made game-changing plays
Shawn Forte was a productive Maryland safety whose value went beyond tackles: in his final two seasons he totaled 111 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 6 tackles for loss, and he earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors after a 69-yard pick-six plus a fumble recovery at Virginia in 2000. His differentiator was impact playmaking and range, showing he could flip momentum in a hurry; for a team, that translates to a reliable back-end defender with proven instincts, toughness, and a nose for timely turnovers.[1][2]
