Hall of Fame OL with Elite Intensity, Now Retired After Health Scare
Billy Price, a two-time All-American and 2025 Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, was a dominant, Rimington Trophy-winning center known for his ferocious intensity and leadership, but he is no longer an active player—he retired in May 2024 after recovering from a non-sports-related pulmonary embolism that ended his football career. His differentiators include unmatched grit (tore his pec at the NFL Combine yet still earned first-round status), emotional resilience (cried after emergency surgery but embraced being a Buckeye), and legacy status (selected to BTN All-Decade Team). While he’s not a fit for any team today due to retirement, his story of overcoming life-threatening health issues while honoring Ohio State’s center lineage makes him a compelling figure to care about for his humanity, not just his stats.
