Houston’s young lefty is a high-upside arm still fighting for innings
As of the 2026 season, Hector Arellano is a redshirt freshman left-handed pitcher at Houston, but he did not appear in games in 2026 because of an injury suffered in the fall, so the sample is still limited. The big reason to care is the upside: he arrived after winning Brownsville Herald/Valley Morning Star Pitcher of the Year in 2025 at Lopez Early College High School, and Houston clearly views him as a developmental arm with starter potential if the body cooperates.
