Dennis Gates brings defense-first reliability and veteran poise to Cal
A former Cal guard known for steady two-way play, Dennis Gates’ value comes from his **defensive activity**, **basketball IQ**, and **low-mistake, team-first style** rather than flashy volume scoring; in his Cal career he played 114 games with 34 starts and finished with 100 steals, while later evaluation highlighted him as a career 5.6-point scorer with 1.4 steals per game as a senior. That profile makes him a fit for teams that want toughness, consistency, and perimeter pressure more than pure shot creation, especially if you need a guard who can impact winning without dominating usage.[3][4][6]
