Veteran Iowa edge with NFL size and versatile trench value
Matt Nelson’s appeal is his rare combination of length, power and positional versatility: he was a 6-foot-7, 299-pound NFL offensive lineman who logged regular-season snaps for Detroit and later Minnesota, and his 2023 PFF profile showed a solid 71.6 pass-block grade despite limited action. He is valuable if you need a big, experienced, low-ego trench player who can survive in multiple spots, but he is not a splashy speed rusher or high-volume production fit. Minnesota also placed him on injured reserve in 2025 with an undisclosed injury, so medical availability matters.
