Brian Mellott was a high-IQ, versatile Youngstown State lineman with serious academic chops
In the 2009 season, Brian Mellott stood out for his versatility on the offensive line, having moved from defense to offense and even logged snaps at multiple spots, while earning First Team Academic All-Conference honors and a 3.90 accounting GPA. His biggest differentiator is the combination of football intelligence, adaptability, and steady reliability — the kind of player coaches trust because he understands the system, not just his assignment. If you value toughness, positional flexibility, and a mature locker-room presence, he fits the bill; if you need a pure athletic freak, he’s more craft than flash.
