Mitchell Morton brings freshman upside and steady catch-and-hit value for Xavier
In the 2026 season, Xavier freshman catcher Mitchell Morton has shown everyday roster value with a .174 batting average and 6 hits in 23 at-bats, while also drawing walks and logging time behind the plate for a young Musketeers club. His best differentiator is the catcher profile itself: a 6-foot-2, right-handed receiver with room to add strength, and enough defensive trust to keep getting opportunities early in his college career. If you want a developmental backstop with frame, makeup, and upside rather than a finished product, Morton is a sensible fit.
