Nelson Smith brings Navy’s downhill fullback punch
Nelson Smith is a physical, North-South **fullback** who gives Navy a reliable short-yardage and red-zone threat, highlighted by a 26-yard touchdown run in a 2024 win over Tulsa and a season line of 571 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns in the games noted by Navy Athletics.[3][5] He fits the Midshipmen’s system because he runs with toughness, finishes plays, and can create hidden-yardage momentum in a run-heavy offense, making him especially valuable to teams that want a bruising, assignment-sound backfield piece rather than a pure finesse runner.[3][5]
