In the 2005-06 season, David Berghoefer emerged as a reliable, high-motor center for Western Carolina, ranking sixth in the Southern Conference in scoring (14.6 ppg) and standing out as the only player in the league to rank in the top seven in both scoring and rebounding. He was more than a box-score big man: reports from the time show he routinely delivered efficient inside scoring, physical rebounding, and timely production off the bench and in close games, including multiple double-doubles.
