Gavin Taylor brings top-catcher upside with a compact, athletic profile
Gavin Taylor profiles as an athletic, right-handed catching prospect whose calling card is balanced impact: solid bat speed, real power potential, and enough athleticism to stay playable behind the plate. Prep Baseball Report lists a 96.9 mph max exit velocity and 7.03-second 60-yard dash, while Perfect Game has him at 82 exit velo and 1.78-second 10-yard split, suggesting quick-twitch pop with mobility for the position. He was described as one of the nation’s top catchers in 2023, which points to a high-ceiling defender/offensive fit for a team needing a catcher with upside rather than a pure glove-only profile.[1][2][5]
