high-motor, versatile edge with proven NFL disruption
Smoot is a physical, high-effort defensive end whose value comes from effort, versatility, and run defense more than flashy sack totals. In the 2024 season, he logged 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 11 games for Buffalo, with injuries limiting availability, but he still played meaningful rotational snaps and showed he can help on all three downs. His NFL career includes 25.0 sacks, and Illinois lists him as a former Fighting Illini standout, which supports his fit as a dependable, pro-ready defensive line piece for teams that value toughness and consistency.
