SIU’s dependable glue guy at fullback
In the 2022 season, Jacob Garrett was more than a bruising 6-foot-2, 247-pound fullback for Southern Illinois — he was a reliable pass-catcher, a steady blocker, and a team captain who earned Academic All-America honors. He started all 11 games, caught 32 passes, and scored 6 receiving touchdowns, including a breakout 5-catch, 78-yard, 2-TD showing at Northwestern. The big differentiator here is versatility: Garrett brought old-school lead-blocking toughness plus enough receiving skill to stay on the field in obvious passing situations, the kind of trust-building presence coaches love.
