Jackson Smith gives SIU a left-handed bullpen arm with uneven results but clear strike-throwing upside
In the 2026 season, Southern Illinois lefty Jackson Smith has flashed usable swing-and-miss stuff, but the stat line has been bumpy: one roster page lists him at 0-1 with a 16.50 ERA, 11 walks, and 8 strikeouts across 6 innings, while team coverage shows he’s been trusted in leverage spots and even used to close out a win over Evansville. He’s a 6-foot-1 junior transfer from Central Michigan with a left-on-left profile that still matters, and the fit hinges on whether a team wants a live arm to develop or immediate command certainty.
