Boise State’s 2014 WR recruit with a high-upside, injury-derailed profile
Rick Smith was a highly regarded prep receiver, rated by ESPN as a four-star prospect and the No. 39 wide receiver in the country coming out of Long Beach Poly, with strong return-game value and big-play juice. His Boise State story, though, was interrupted early: in the 2014 season he redshirted and was named Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year, and his college path was later marked by a serious off-field incident in 2015. If a team wants a proven talent with explosiveness and special-teams ability, the upside is real—but the availability questions are the kicker.
