SMU LB Blake Johnson brings size, depth, and upside — but stats are still waiting to pop
Blake Johnson is listed on SMU’s 2026 roster as a 6-foot, 195-pound sophomore linebacker, and ESPN’s player page currently shows no recorded defensive stats, which suggests he’s still in the early stages of carving out a bigger role[1][2]. The intrigue is the profile: he offers a clean slate, developmental upside, and the kind of room-to-grow athletic build coaches love to mold. If you want instant production, the box score doesn’t shout yet; if you want a linebacker bet with long-term upside and roster flexibility, Johnson is a name worth watching[1][2].
