Matt Byrnes is UNLV’s blue-collar TE who does the dirty work
In the 2025 season, Matt Byrnes gave UNLV a true block-first tight end who showed up in all 14 games and caught 2 passes for 24 yards, after producing 10 catches for 94 yards and a touchdown across his Houston career. At 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds, he looks like an extra lineman but can still be a useful safety valve in the passing game. The big sell here is reliability, physicality, and willingness to do the grunt work that helps the run game hum, though he is not a high-volume receiver.
