Mike Van Portfliet was a special-teams spark and high-character safety for Northern Colorado
In the 2008-2010 Northern Colorado seasons, Mike Van Portfliet stood out less as a box-score monster and more as a disruptive, high-effort defensive back and special-teams weapon: he played all 11 games in 2009, recorded 11 tackles that season, and famously blocked two punts in a game to tie a school record. Reliable coverage also paints him as a respected team leader and elite character fit, with community-service recognition and strong academic honors. If your team wants toughness, selflessness, and hidden-playmaking juice, he’s exactly the kind of player you want on the bus.
