the high-IQ, high-mileage safety who just keeps showing up
Mahone is a durable, assignment-sound safety whose calling card was consistency: West Virginia credited him with a school-record 55 career games and 35 starts, plus 224 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and 4 interceptions in his Mountaineer career. He stood out as a tone-setter with strong academic/character markers too—he was a Campbell Trophy finalist and an Academic All-America honoree—so the fit question is simple: if you want a reliable, experienced defensive back who plays with discipline and maturity, he’s your guy.
