Joel Fernandez brings gold-glove defense and sneaky impact behind the plate for WSU
In the 2025 season at Pierce College, Joel Fernandez hit .257 with 8 doubles, 1 home run, 19 RBI, and 7 stolen bases, while throwing out 16 runners and earning All-West Region First Team, second-team All-NWAC, and West Region Gold Glove honors[1][3]. He entered Washington State in 2026 as a 6-foot, 200-pound sophomore catcher from Yakima, and the early read is classic value-add backstop: tough, athletic, and defense-first, with the kind of arm and game control that can quietly change innings[5][8].
