Dawson Downs brings big-body infield upside and real power pop to UCSB
Dawson Downs enters UC Santa Barbara as a 6-foot-5, 215-pound sophomore infielder with a left-handed bat and right-handed throw, giving the Gauchos a physical, run-producing presence in the dirt. He flashed loud offensive upside in summer ball in 2026, including a 3-for-5, double, homer, 3-RBI game and a two-homer, 10-RBI explosion, which screams middle-of-the-order damage. The fit is intriguing if UCSB wants size, strength, and a bat that can change a game fast—think power first, grindy at-bats, and a little extra thump for good measure.
