Mike Smith brings veteran ball skills to VMI’s secondary
Mike Smith is a seasoned VMI defensive back who’s been described by the program as one of the most experienced returners in the secondary and a big-play performer, with multiple-game action and at least one notable interception return on his résumé in the 2012 season[2][4][6]. For a team, that mix of experience, instincts, and playmaking is valuable because he can help stabilize coverage and create sudden-change moments; the catch is that the public stat trail is thin, so the appeal is more about trust, football IQ, and proven competitiveness than flashy counting numbers[1][2].
