Versatile Defensive Back Who Earned All-SoCon Honors at Appalachian State
Ed Gainey is a reliable, multi-skilled defensive back who earned second-team All-Southern Conference honors in both 2009 and 2010 at Appalachian State. Despite not starting until game five of his final season, he finished with 51 tackles (32 solo), nine pass breakups, and a fumble recovery—showcasing above-average run defense and solid coverage skills. His late-season promotion to starter and immediate impact demonstrate coachability and football intelligence. Gainey's consistency and versatility make him an intriguing prospect for teams seeking a dependable secondary contributor who can contribute on special teams.
