Joel Taylor brings elite defensive-secondary coaching chops to South Carolina State
Joel Taylor is a defense-first staff addition with a track record of improving results, especially in the secondary and against the pass. At Mercer, his defense climbed from 106th nationally in scoring defense before his arrival to 30th in 2022, while also leading the FCS with 17 interceptions that season; at West Georgia, he helped power an 8-3 2025 run and a top-20 rushing defense. The fit is strong for a team that wants detail, toughness, and measurable defensive structure—not just scheme talk.
