J.B. Kern brings walk-on grit and Tide DNA to Alabama’s linebacker room
J.B. Kern is a walk-on linebacker whose appeal is old-school: 6-foot-1, 232 pounds, physical enough to survive SEC reps and the kind of blue-collar competitiveness Alabama has always loved. He was described in Alabama coverage as a scout-team linebacker who embraced the role and stuck with the program, which tells you the main differentiator here is reliability and toughness, not flash. There’s no meaningful current stat line to chase, but if you value depth, effort, and a player who fits the culture in the room, Kern is a perfectly respectable Tide-type flyer.
