Kyle McKernan is a freshmen catcher with gap-to-gap upside and clutch-contact flashes for Lafayette
In the 2026 season, Lafayette freshman catcher Kyle McKernan has been a contact-oriented, left-handed bat who’s already shown he can move the line and come through in spots, including driving in runs and scoring in key league games; Lafayette’s stats list him at .118 with 10 appearances, 17 at-bats, 2 hits, 4 RBI and a .348 on-base mark. His high-school résumé was strong too: a four-year starter, four-time all-league pick, and .330 hitter with 94 hits at William Penn, which supports the idea that his value is more about steady bat-to-ball skill, leadership and polish than pure power. He looks like a fit for a team that wants a composed, developing catcher with upside, not a finished product.
