Sumner Estes brings size, command upside, and a proven bat to Youngstown State's pitching mix
Estes is a big right-hander at 6'5", 240 pounds who also showed real two-way value in high school, posting a .577 average and a 2.10 ERA in 2022 while striking out 54 batters in 40 innings[1]. His differentiators are strike-throwing and poise: he worked 7 starts in 8 pitching appearances and paired 54 strikeouts with 22 walks, suggesting usable starter traits if the command sharpens further[1]. For a staff, he looks like a developmentally interesting power arm with innings-eating size, but his older high-school fielding numbers and limited public college stat trail make him more projection than finished product[1].
