Power-Hitting RHP with Low-A Breakout, Not a Winthrop Eagle Pitcher
Randy Guzman is a right-handed pitcher signed by the New York Mets to a minor league contract in September 2025, not a current Winthrop Eagles pitcher as the roster query suggests [1][4]. His standout differentiator is a dramatic power surge as a hitter in 2025: after hitting just .186 with a .648 OPS in two Dominican Summer League seasons, he exploded for 10 home runs in 75 games and slugged .604 in a 26-game Low-A St. Lucie sample, carrying him from the Florida Complex League to Low-A [8]. As a pitcher, he has only 1 MiLB appearance in 2026 (4.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 2 SO), indicating he is still developing on the mound [4]. You should care because his 2025 power binge reveals elite raw strength and rapid improvement, making him a high-upside prospect for teams valuing bat-first versatility; however, he is not a fit for a college pitching role at Winthrop since he is already in the Mets' minor league system and his pitching stats are minimal [4][8].
