Freshman righty with starter pedigree and early test-drive upside
Van Tuyle is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound freshman RHP for Richmond who arrived with a strong prep résumé: three-year starter at Heritage High, 2023 team MVP, and first-team all-district/all-region honors plus all-state recognition. In 2026, he’s been used in relief and showed he can handle pressure, working a scoreless inning against Fordham with a strikeout and also logging a 1.2-inning, two-run outing versus George Mason. He looks like a strike-throwing competitor with starter experience, but the early college sample is still small, so he’s more intriguing as a development arm than a finished product.
