Marist’s Steven Mazza: a gritty redshirt junior with swing-and-miss upside and starter durability
In the 2026 season, Steven Mazza has worked as a multi-start right-hander for Marist, flashing durability with a five-inning, one-run outing against Rider and a 5.2-inning win over Saint Peter’s, but also showing volatility in tougher matchups like Purdue and Niagara.[1][8][11][14] His strongest differentiator is that he keeps taking the ball and can miss bats—he logged 20 strikeouts in 27.2 innings and, in the 2023 season, struck out 26 in 24.1 relief innings while holding hitters to .230.[1] For a staff that wants a competitive, college-tested arm with rotation experience, he’s a useful fit; for a team seeking pure command consistency, there’s still some polish needed.[1][6][9]
