Marina Mata brings size, international pedigree, and pro-level upside to BYU
Mata is a 6-1 forward whose profile is bigger than her early BYU box score: in 2025 she averaged 12.0 points and 5.4 rebounds for Spain at the FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket, showing real scoring and frontcourt versatility against strong international competition. Her BYU freshman season in 2023-24 was limited, but her youth national-team production suggests a player with touch, rebounding, and growth potential rather than a finished product. She also signed a professional contract with Cadi La Seu after her BYU stint, reinforcing that evaluators see legitimate long-term upside and a player worth tracking closely.
