Reliable Spartan big man with efficient touch and veteran toughness
Gavin Schilling was a 6-foot-9 Michigan State forward whose value came from efficient finishing, rebounding, and physical defense rather than high-usage scoring. In the 2017-18 season, he averaged 2.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in 9.6 minutes while shooting 70.6% from the field, a strong sign of a role player who understood his job and played it cleanly. His differentiators were size, motor, and experience in Tom Izzo’s system, but a season-ending injury in 2016 slowed his arc. If you want rugged depth and low-drama reliability, he fits; if you need a creator, he’s not that guy.
