Axel Melendez brings speed, contact, and versatility to ETSU’s lineup
Melendez has emerged as a valuable all-around piece for East Tennessee State, hitting .304 with 6 home runs, 37 RBI, and a team-best 8 sacrifice bunts while going a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases, a profile that shows he can impact games in multiple ways rather than just by power. He also brings athletic upside, with scouting notes pointing to quick-twitch tools and outfield instincts, making him a fit for teams that value pressure on the bases, defensive flexibility, and high-effort production.
