MJ Johnson brings slot-speed juice to Southern Miss with an early splash play
In the 2026 season, Southern Miss wide receiver MJ Johnson has already flashed big-play ability, turning his first reception into a 43-yard gain and adding 13 rushing yards in the opener against Alcorn State[1][4]. Listed as a junior at about 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, he’s being used as a play-making slot receiver/return option, which fits a quick, versatile, and open-field-friendly profile[4][6]. The appeal here is obvious: he looks like a movable chess piece with acceleration, not just a stationary target[6].
