UNCW’s Matous Bubenik is an emerging two-way lineup threat behind the plate
In the 2026 season, freshman catcher Matous Bubenik flashed real pop for UNC Wilmington, including a team-high seven doubles and two homers in just 60 plate appearances during the fall, and he also delivered a season-high four RBIs against William & Mary in March before starting 9 of 15 games overall. He’s a 6-foot-1, 210-pound right-handed bat with international pedigree—good enough to earn Czech Republic World Baseball Classic duty—and that combination of power potential, size, and competitive edge makes him an intriguing fit if a team wants upside at catcher rather than a finished product.
