Chris Schaller brings speed, center-field range, and a timely bat to Richmond’s rookie mix
In the 2026 season, Richmond freshman Chris Schaller emerged as an All-Rookie caliber spark plug: he hit .321 with a .932 OPS, 14 doubles, 6 home runs, 14 stolen bases, and 41 starts in center field, while earning A-10 Rookie of the Week honors after a .417 week with five extra-base hits. He looks like the kind of player coaches love—athletic, aggressive on the bases, and dependable up the middle—and his game plays beyond the box score because he consistently impacts both run creation and run prevention.
