Paul Schmitz brings veteran strikeout stuff and big-frame upside to Houston
Paul Schmitz, a senior RHP for Houston in the 2026 season, has flashed swing-and-miss ability and enough durability to give the Cougars length, including a 4.0-inning shutout win over Wake Forest to open the season and a 7-strikeout outing against BYU. He’s a 6-foot-8, right-on-right power arm with a starter’s build and confidence, and he was strong enough early in 2026 to land on the College Baseball Foundation’s Pitcher of the Year watch list. The fit is clear: if you want size, experience, and the kind of mound presence that can steady a weekend rotation, Schmitz is your guy.
