Wyatt Wawro has been a spark-plug leadoff bat for NIU
In the 2026 season, Northern Illinois freshman outfielder Wyatt Wawro emerged as one of the Huskies’ most reliable table-setters, leading NIU in batting average (.357) and on-base percentage (.491) while starting 43 of 52 games. He also showed real impact in pressure spots, including a 14-game hitting streak and multiple-hit bursts, and NIU noted he ranked 10th nationally in OBP at one point during the season. At 5-foot-9 with a lefty bat, Wawro’s value is speed, contact, and getting on base—exactly the kind of disciplined, annoying-at-bats profile coaches love at the top of a lineup.
