In the 2025 season, Ashton Cunningham flashed as a freshman reserve cornerback with 13 tackles and 3 pass breakups across 11 games, then opened the 2026 season with his first career start at cornerback at Cincinnati on Sept. 5, 2026.[1][5] The 5-foot-9, 170-pound DB looks like a quick, competitive cover man who can help on special teams and in the slot/outside rotation; the early start suggests the staff trusts his intensity and readiness. He was also a three-star recruit ranked No. 1,177 nationally in the 2024 cycle, so the upside profile is still very much in play.[1][15]
