Versatile, High-IQ Safety with Elite Zone Coverage and Tackling Flaws
Aubrey Burks, West Virginia's senior safety, stands out for his exceptional football IQ, zone coverage prowess (top PFF grade of 90.3 among returning Power 5 safeties), and versatility across slot, box, and free safety roles, making him a schematic chess piece for defenses[1][2][6]. With 113 career tackles, 8 TFL, and 23 starts in reliable production through 2023, his aggressive downhill style and closing speed shine, though high missed tackle rates (25.5% in 2023) and an injury-shortened 2024 raise durability flags[1][2][4]. Care about him for immediate special teams impact and starter upside in zone-heavy schemes; he's a smart Day 3 NFL fit if tackling refines[1][2].
