Nate Vargas brings middle-of-the-order pop and a workhorse catcher’s edge to UCSB
In the 2026 season, Nate Vargas was one of UC Santa Barbara’s most dangerous bats, finishing .279 with 12 home runs, 42 RBI and a .948 OPS while also handling a heavy catching load. He’s a left-handed hitter with real gap power and pull-side juice, and UCSB coaches clearly trust his competitiveness behind the plate. After missing time in early April, he returned by ripping three homers in four games and earning Big West Player of the Week honors, which is a nice tell on his resilience and impact. Good fit if you want a catcher who can hit in the heart of the order and bring some edge.
