Cooper Carlgren brought swing-and-miss stuff and big-game poise to Lamar
In the 2026 season, the 6-foot-3 right-hander was a reliable arm for Lamar, posting a 4.44 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 48.2 innings and finishing strong in postseason play, including 7.2 innings of two-run ball in a key Southland tournament win and two hitless relief innings with three strikeouts in the championship series. His best calling card is bat-missing ability and toughness in high-leverage spots; he also showed starter-reliever flexibility. He has since signed with the Washington Nationals as an undrafted free agent, which is a strong hint evaluators liked the competitive edge beyond the raw numbers.
