Big-frame righty with pro upside, but 2025 command issues slowed the climb
In the 2025 season, Hunter Baynes showed the raw ingredients that keep scouts interested—a 6-3, 210-pound right-hander with a power arm and enough strikeout ability to miss bats—but the walk rate and run prevention lagged behind the stuff, as he posted a 6.87 ERA and 1.69 WHIP across 15 appearances for Old Dominion. He did not pitch in 2026 and signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as an undrafted free agent, which suggests teams still liked the ceiling, even if the consistency needed work. Good fit if you want upside and are willing to coach the edges.
