James Basinger brings big-play efficiency to SDSU’s backfield
Basinger arrives at South Dakota State after a huge 2024 senior season at Columbine, where he ran for 1,743 yards, averaged 8.0 yards per carry, and scored 25 rushing touchdowns; that production points to a back with burst, efficiency, and finishing ability in space.[2][6] SDSU also notes he was an all-conference performer as a junior with nearly 800 all-purpose yards, suggesting he can contribute beyond straight-ahead carries.[3] The main reason to care: he looks like a compact, high-output runner who can turn limited touches into chunk plays, making him a strong fit for a program that values disciplined, productive backs.[1][3]
