Jaylan Gainey is Florida State’s rim-protecting, low-usage glue guy
In the 2023-24 season, Jaylan Gainey gave Florida State a big defensive presence in limited minutes: the 6-10 graduate transfer was a two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year at Brown, then returned from a preseason knee injury to provide shot-blocking, rebounding and physicality for the Seminoles. He’s the kind of forward who changes possessions more than box scores—useful if your team values length, toughness and backline defense, less so if it needs a volume scorer. His long injury layoff is the main flag, but his experience and defensive motor make him a legit fit for a defense-first frontcourt.
