Alabama State’s Freshman RHP with Swing-and-Miss Stuff, but Still Finding His Command
In the 2026 season, Jaxon Baptist has flashed legitimate strikeout ability for Alabama State, including a 7-strikeout outing in 4.1 innings against Alabama, but his season line also shows the growing pains of a freshman arm: elevated walks, hard contact, and a rough ERA profile. He’s a 5'11", right-handed starter from Coronado High who already has pitching pedigree—named Texas 6A D-1 Pitcher of the Year—and that competitive edge shows. The fit is intriguing if you want upside and mound toughness, but he looks more like a development bet than a plug-and-play stopper right now.
