Luke Payne brings live left-handed stuff and high-upside bullpen depth to ECU
Payne is an experienced 6-foot-4 left-hander who arrived at East Carolina after spending two seasons at Tennessee, where he showed real effectiveness in limited duty, including 3.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts in 2024 and only one hit allowed in that stretch. ECU’s roster notes also credit him with prior relief work and a strong strikeout profile, while outside coverage described him as a high-energy presence. For a staff, he looks like a low-risk, high-upside fit if you want a mature arm who can miss bats and handle leverage.
