Cal McBurney brings starter-sized frame, strikeout pedigree, and intriguing upside to Brown’s staff
Cal McBurney is a sophomore RHP for Brown with a pro-ready build at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds and a strong prep track record: in 2024 he posted a 1.56 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 50 innings, after fanning 63 over 61 innings in 2023. He also logged scoreless relief in his collegiate debut in 2026, which hints at strike-throwing polish and poise under the lights. The appeal here is upside: power, innings-eating potential, and enough competitiveness to fit a staff that wants reliable, high-leverage arm talent.
