Brayden Gutierrez gives Saint Mary’s a big-framed, right-handed power bat behind the plate
In the 2026 season, freshman catcher Brayden Gutierrez flashed legitimate pop for Saint Mary’s, hitting .294 with a .500 on-base percentage, .765 slugging percentage and 1.265 OPS in 13 games and 17 at-bats. The 6-foot-3 Bakersfield native already showed he can change a game with the long ball, homering for his first collegiate hit and adding another extra-base threat in limited duty. That’s the fun part: a catcher with size, impact contact, and early offensive upside. If a team wants a developmental backstop with power potential and room to grow, he’s worth a close look.
