Mason Orton brings a polished left-handed look to NIU’s pitching mix
Orton stands out as a **projectable lefty** with a simple delivery, long arm action, and a low-three-quarters slot that creates natural life and run on his fastball; Prep Baseball Report says his heater sat 83-84 mph and touched 85.7 mph, with a cutter, sweeping curveball, and developing changeup giving him a true four-pitch mix. [1] He’s also been described as a strike-throwing arm with game production, and his profile suggests a pitcher whose value comes from deception, feel, and pitch variety more than raw velocity—making him a fit for a team that can develop upside.
